🌾 New Lawn Installation — Sod & Hydroseeding in Cuyahoga & Geauga County, OH

Two Proven Ways to Get an Established Lawn — Faster

Whether you’re finishing new construction, recovering from heavy yard damage, or replacing a lawn that’s beyond repair, DG Picture Perfect Landscaping installs new lawns across Cuyahoga and Geauga Counties, Ohio. We offer both sod installation for instant lawns and hydroseeding for cost-effective coverage on larger areas.

When You Need a New Lawn

Some yards need a full reset rather than incremental repairs. Common situations:

  • New construction where the builder left bare or poorly graded soil
  • Major landscape renovations (regrading, drainage work, paver removal)
  • Severe damage from drought, disease, grub infestations, or pet wear
  • Lawns dominated by weeds or thin enough that overseeding alone won’t fix them
  • Older lawns with compacted soil and exhausted root systems

Sod vs Hydroseeding — How They Compare

Both approaches produce a healthy established lawn. The right choice depends on budget, timeline, and the size of the area.

Sod Installation: Instant Lawn

Sod is mature grass grown on a sod farm and rolled out across your prepped soil like a green carpet. It looks finished the day it’s installed.

Best for: front yards, high-visibility areas, smaller spaces (typically under 5,000 sq ft), homes being put on the market, or anyone who wants a usable lawn within a few weeks.

Trade-offs: higher upfront material cost. Requires diligent watering during the first 2–3 weeks while roots knit into the soil.

Hydroseeding: Cost-Effective Coverage

Hydroseeding is a slurry of seed, mulch fiber, fertilizer, and tackifier sprayed onto prepared soil. The mulch holds moisture and keeps seed in place during germination.

Best for: larger lots, sloped or hard-to-mow areas, back yards, or projects where budget matters more than instant results.

Trade-offs: takes 7–14 days for germination and 6–8 weeks for fill-in. Foot traffic should be limited until the lawn is established. Significantly less expensive than sod per square foot.

What’s Included with DG Picture Perfect

  • Site assessment and soil testing
  • Soil prep — grading, debris removal, amendments as needed
  • For sod: starter fertilizer application, sod laid tight with seams staggered, rolled and watered in
  • For hydroseeding: blended slurry application with high-quality cool-season seed mix matched to your sun and shade conditions
  • Watering guidance and a written aftercare schedule
  • Follow-up check-in to confirm establishment

Best Time to Install in Northeast Ohio

  • Spring (April–early June): good for both methods. Cool soil, frequent rain, less heat stress.
  • Late summer to early fall (mid-August–September): ideal window for hydroseeding. Warm soil, cooler air, fewer weed competitors.
  • Mid-summer: sod is still possible but requires more aggressive watering. Hydroseeding is harder to establish in heat.
